Empon-empon Has Been Cultivated at Balkot Farm

Empon-empon is most sought after by people, as it has properties to increase immunity and prevent COVID-19 infection

Empon-empon plants from various types have been cultivated at Balkot Farm, Jakarta City Hall, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Gambir, Central Jakarta, before the outbreak of the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19).

Food Security and Agriculture Division Head Sunarto said various types of empon-empon planted are turmeric and ginger.

KPKP Encourages People to Plant Empon-Empon

"Empon-empon is most sought after by people, as it has properties to increase immunity and prevent COVID-19 infection," he expressed, when seeding and caring for plants at Balkot Farm, Friday (3/6).

At Balkot Farm, there are currently 27 types of family medicinal plants (Toga), 5 types of vegetable plants and 2 types of fruits.

"We take advantage of limited land to inject maximum benefits," he explained.

He added the city is intensifying the movement to plant various types of plants involving the participation of citizens through urban farming and green alley programs.

"Since 2016 until 2019, in Central Jakarta, there have been 150 points of densely populated residential areas fostered through the green alley program.

"We provide aid with plant seeds, fertilizers and training for locals to grow crops and cultivate food crops and toga," he stated.
